The congregation of Latchford Baptist Church has celebrated the retirement of our much-loved minister, Revd Carolyn Urwin, giving thanks for her faithful ministry and the lasting impact she has made on the church and wider community.
An afternoon tea held in the church hall on Saturday 27 June brought together church members, colleagues, friends and families to honour Carolyn's years of service and achievements including initiatives which have opened the door to the community such as ‘Renew with a Brew’ and the affordable food pantry, The Little Shop at Latchford.
Warm tributes were also received from people in Wraysbury, where she previously ministered and is remembered with great affection. A spokesman for the residents of Wraysbury also spoke of the lasting difference Carolyn made to village life, remembering her warmth, friendship and commitment to serving the community.
Regional Minister, Revd Jane Henderson praised Carolyn’s compassionate leadership, quiet strength and genuine care for others. Whether lending a listening ear, leading worship, celebrating life's milestones or supporting people through bereavement, Carolyn's ministry has been marked by kindness, hospitality, grace and faithful service.
Those paying tribute described Carolyn as a servant-hearted minister whose thoughtful and inclusive leadership helped create a welcoming church where people felt valued, supported and encouraged in their faith. Her musical gifts and carefully chosen words have enriched worship and brought comfort, hope and encouragement to many.
In her final service as minister on Sunday 28 June, Carolyn reflected that while retirement marks the end of one chapter, it also opens the door to a new one.
Church Member, Sue Wilkinson said: "Carolyn's faithful service, gentle leadership and loving ministry have touched many lives, and her legacy will continue to be felt for years to come. We thank her for her years of dedicated ministry and pray that this new season brings joy, peace and many opportunities to enjoy family, friends, music and a well-earned retirement."
Carolyn responded: “When we think of how far we have come as a church over the last seven years, it’s not because of what I have done, it’s because of what we have done together. You will always be in my heart.”
